Environmental health is tasked with approving and inspecting facilities governed by general sanitation rules to ensure they are operated in a safe and sanitary manner. This includes but is not limited to hotels, motels, bed & breakfasts, campgrounds, group homes, recovery homes, schools, labor camps, mass gatherings, and organized camps. For a complete list of facilities that fall under West Virginia 64 CSR 18 and their requirements, please review the following document.
If you are interested in opening a new facility, you must submit an appilication and in some cases a plan review for approval. Once these documents have been approved and all applicable permit fees paid, you must schedule an opening inspection with the department prior to opening to the public. Please contact the health department to determine whether a plan review is required for your facility.
Depending on the type of facility you intend to open, you may be required to obtain further permits such as a septic system permit, water well permit, public water system permit, or a food establishment permit. Please contact the health department to determine what types of permit you will need and view the following pages for more information.
